Tributes are pouring in for French fashion designer Thierry Mugler following his death aged 73.
The iconic rag trader’s agent confirmed that he passed away from natural causes. On Sunday, his official Instagram account shared a post with the caption: “#RIP We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23rd 2022.
“May his soul Rest In Peace.”
Mugler was known for his futuristic architectural style and trademark sculpted clothing, which became synonymous with many celebrities and performers over the last five decades.
Beyonce has led tributes to Mugler as dozens of celebrities pay their respects.
The “Halo” singer shared a photo of the designer on her website and wrote: “Rest in Peace.”
Meanwhile, the Kardashian and Jenner sisters also shared tributes, with Kourtney posting a photo on her Instagram Stories of her and her siblings all wearing Mugler designs.
“All in Mugler” she captioned the post followed by a broken heart emoji.
“devastating. Rip to an absolute legend,” said RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Aquaria.
While Georgia May Jagger, who became the face of Mugler’s women’s fragrance Angel in 2014, commented: “I cannot believe this is true sending love to you all. Thierry was a force of creativity and kindness.”
Diana Ross shared a photo with Mugler and said: “I will miss you Thierry Mugler this was a wonderful time in our lives.”
Writer Cora Harrington added: “Mugler is one of those designers who is so iconic that references to him appear everywhere. He is THE blueprint. Like so many other greats, there is an aesthetic language he developed that we take for granted today because it’s so ubiquitous. It’s woven into the fabric of fashion.”
Shea Couleé, another Drag Race star, also shared their heartbreak at the loss of Mugler, just days after the death of Andre Leon Tally.
“Not Mugler?!?!? First Andre and now Thierry? This is too much. I am so heartbroken.”
“Mugler was a fashion god. His impact was and will continue to be extraordinary,” said writer Liv Marks.
Nina Garcia, editor-in-chief of Elle magazine, paid tribute to a “visionary.”
“He was truly a visionary. His designs shaped a fashion era and influenced a new generation of designers that weren’t afraid of taking risks. He was a pioneer in mixing art, fashion history music, advertising, technology & celebrity culture into a new form. RIP Thierry Mugler.”
