It’s been 15 months since cruise guests were able to board a ship and sail out of a U.S. port, but that’s finally about to change.
Celebrity Cruises on Wednesday announced that, after meeting standards set out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it will become the first cruise line to start sailing out of the U.S. post-COVID when Celebrity Edge sails a seven-night itinerary from Port Everglades on June 26.
Celebrity Cruises CEO and president Lisa Lutoff-Perlo helped make the announcement on Twitter on Thursday, writing that “Someday is here.”

In a statement later on Thursday, Lutoff-Perlo said that after 15 months of conversations with friends, she is “beyond proud and excited to say that day has arrived.”
“The power of travel has a way of healing our souls as we connect with cultures, sights, and experiences that bring greater joy and renewed energy to our lives. Nothing compares to these experiences at sea and now the wonder of these journeys returns. We’ve been preparing for this day for months and, on behalf of all of us at Celebrity Cruises, we’re ready and we can’t wait to welcome our guests aboard once again!” she said.
Celebrity also announced that Edge will be helmed by the first, and only, American female captain, Captain Kate McCue.
All guests 16-years-old and older will be required to show proof of vaccination prior to boarding and then starting on August 1, that requirement expands to all guests 12-years and older.
Guests will also be required to complete a health questionnaire prior to boarding. Celebrity will be providing complimentary antigen tests onboard for guests who need them for travel home. Other health and safety protocols can be found on Celebrity’s health and safety page.
Edge becomes the eighth Celebrity ship to get a restart date. The line had already announced restarts for Celebrity Millennium out of St. Maarten on June 5, Celebrity Apex out of Athens on June 19, three ships out of the Galapagos starting on July 5, and Celebrity Summit in Alaska on July 23.
All sailings are available with Celebrity’s new all-inclusive fare that includes WiFi, drinks, tips, and more.
