Prince William’s new project, the Earthshot Prize, just got more exciting. The award show, which will be held on Oct. 17 at the Alexandra Palace in London, per People, are set to feature an exciting lineup of A-list celebs. And while many of the details were kept quiet during the planning stages, Prince William announced which celebrities will be present, and the list did not disappoint.
The Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony is designed for celebrity movers and shakers who are doing their part to positively impact the environment, per the ceremony’s official website. The awards will recognize five solutions to some of the earth’s greatest environmental challenges based around the five “Earthshot” goals to “protect and restore nature, revive our oceans, to clean our air, build a waste-free world and fix our climate.”Winners will receive a £1 million prize and “tailored support to scale their solutions and realize an even greater impact of their ground-breaking work.”
2021 marks the first year of the awards, but they are expected to continue through 2030, with five winners selected each year. And if the first award show is any indication, the ceremony will feature its fair share of celebrities to turn the event into an occasion.
Celebrities at the Earthshot Prize Awards
The first Earthshot Prize Awards will be hosted by Clara Amfo and Dermot O’Leary, per People, with performances by Ed Sheeran, KSI and Yemi Alade, Shawn Mendes, and Coldplay. On brand with the ceremony’s theme, the Coldplay set will be powered by 60 cyclists providing reusable energy. Along with musical performances, the celebrity presenter lineup will include big names like Kate Middleton, Emma Thompson, Emma Watson, David Oyelowo, and Mo Salah. Additionally, Sir David Attenborough is set to speak about the importance of solving environmental challenges.
As much as the Earthshot Prize Awards sounds like a red carpet event, there is no questioning its purpose. In a statement issued by The Royal Foundation CEO Jason Knauf, the foundation explained the role that celebrities play in achieving that goal. “The blockbuster roster of artists, athletes, and presenters that have signed on for our inaugural award show proves just how much excitement there is for optimistic action to rise to the great challenges of our time,” he said, via Hello!. “This will be an award show unlike any you’ve seen before that will entertain you and inspire you to take action to repair the planet in this decisive decade.”
By all indications, Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Awards are set to be quite the event. And with many years of award shows on the calendar, fans of environmental conservation, entertainment, and the royal family alike have much to look forward to.
