The Indy 500 will draw another public figure to its spectacle Sunday: former Vice President Mike Pence.

Pence tweeted Friday afternoon that he, along with his wife, Karen, will be among the race’s capped attendance of 135,000 people.

“Looking forward to being at the Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” the former Indiana governor tweeted.

A spokesperson did not immediately respond to questions.

Pence, who recently purchased and moved into a home north of Indianapolis, is not new to the famous race. Not by a long shot.

By the time he lapped the 2.5-mile track as vice president in 2017, he had more than 30 races under his belt, according to USA Today

“It really is the greatest spectacle in racing,” Pence told ESPN at the time. “We travel around … doing our duties, we mention to people that we are from Indiana and we always hear about the Indianapolis 500. It is a global event, to be today to be able to share this moment, to be back home in Indiana, is special.”
