People often choose those that are closest to them to help positively influence their children’s lives in the role of a godparent – and celebrities are the same.

Many phenomenally famous stars chose their celebrity pals to become godparents to their children.

Here are some of the most surprising celebrity godparents:

Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus

Country legend Dolly Parton is godmother to pop singer Miley Cyrus.

Music icon Dolly is incredibly close with Miley’s dad, Achy Breaky Heart singer Billy Ray Cyrus, and he chose to make the Jolene singer godmother to Miley.

Dolly even put in an appearance on Hannah Montana, the Disney Channel show which catapulted Miley into the limelight.

Joan Collins and Cara Delevingne

Hollywood actress and author Joan Collins is the godmother of supermodel turned actress Cara Delevingne.

Screen icon Joan told Tatler magazine of Cara’s younger years and said: “Cara was an amazing child. Her favourite expression was ‘mine’. That’s the youngest of three, ‘mine, mine’.”

Cara has praised her godmother on social media and once said on Instagram: “So proud of my godmother!! Joan Collins! Legend!”

Jamie Lee Curtis and Jake Gyllenhaal

‘Scream queen’ Jamie Lee Curtis was born into Hollywood as the daughter of actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.

The Halloween legend is also a celebrity godmother to Jake Gyllenhaal, after being involved with the family since the Brokeback Mountain actor was very young.

Steven Spielberg, Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore

Actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore share a famous godfather.

The leading ladies have world-renowned director Steven Spielberg as their godfather.

Spielberg is well known for directing big hits including Jaws, Schindler’s List and E.T – which starred Drew Barrymore when she was a child.

Marilyn Manson and Lily-Rose Depp

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has been close friends with rocker Marilyn Manson for many years.

The Tainted Love singer was chosen to be godfather to Johnny’s model daughter, Lily-Rose.

Elton John and Brooklyn Beckham

British music icon Elton John is the godfather of Victoria and David Beckham’s oldest son, Brooklyn.

Elton, 73, has known the Beckham family for decades.

In an interview with Vogue, Victoria revealed Elton was the inspiration behind her decision to leave the Spice Girls in her past.

At the time, she said: “I was with Elton John this weekend and I told him, ‘you’re the reason why I stopped the Spice Girls.’

“I remember sitting there very near to the front and looking at him singing those songs he’d sung time after time, year after year, and his passion and his enjoyment was incredible, even after all that time.”
