  • Hit Italian Celebrity Restaurant Madeo Not Reopening in West Hollywood – Eater LA

 July 14

Sad news for fans of Madeo, the longtime Italian hangout on Beverly Boulevard. After more than three years of waiting out a building remodel at 8899 Beverly, Eater has confirmed that the Vietina family behind Madeo will not return to that original and iconic address. The restaurant had stood for more than three decades at that location and was supposed to reopen there soon — expectant diners driving past could even see (until recently) a new awning bearing the Madeo name — but now the deal is off, and there’s no formal announcement for a new location elsewhere yet.

The decades-old Madeo has long been known to draw in celebrities from Drake to Sylvester Stallone because of its low-key demeanor and easy access to nearby hotspots in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. In early 2018 the restaurant closed on Beverly Boulevard because of a massive overhaul to the building it occupied; that project was said to take two years, culminating in a triumphant return for the Vietina family.

In the interim, Madeo made due at a new location further west in Beverly Hills, operating for nearly two years at 3623 Camden Drive, in the former Doma space. Fans of the upscale Italian food flocked there for a time, but ultimately that location closed as well in September of 2020, after working for months to push on during the pandemic.

Madeo has not operated anywhere in Los Angeles since then, though fans have always been told to prepare for an imminent return at the original Beverly address. Instead, reps for the Vietina family have confirmed that 8899 Beverly is no longer happening — despite the website for the redeveloped building still touting them as an upcoming tenant.

While the Vietina family could not say what their next move would be, they did note that Madeo still has plans to come back to life in one form or another, with an announcement to be made in the next several months. That almost certainly means a new, different address somewhere in the vicinity of the original, but so far that’s only speculation. Meanwhile, it’s unclear what the fully-built former Madeo space will become at 8899 Beverly now. As for the Vietina family, they’re still running Bianca Bakery at the Platform in Culver City.
