A historic hotel hidden in the Malvern hills is one of just three venues to be shortlisted as ‘best value’ experience in the UK. It’s the latest praise for Cottage in the Wood, which is loved by celebrities from Joan Collins to Felicity Kendall.
The esteemed Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence shortlisted the Worcestershire hotel in Holywell Rd, Malvern Wells. It is up against Hintlesham Hall in Suffolk and The Eastbury and Spa in Dorset.
Rated for having “England’s best view” that looks across the scenic Severn Valley and the Cotswolds, the boutique hotel has a lofty position up a steep hill with unparalleled lookouts.
There’s an art deco style cocktail bar while the Cottage in the Wood restaurant – 1919 – is where Dynasty star Joan Collins famously dined. Head chef Rob Mason, from Kidderminster, has since taken over in the kitchen, overseeing afternoon teas and seven course tasting menus.
Despite the luxurious surroundings and ambience, the 32 rooms spread between the Main House, Coach House and cosier Cottage Rooms start from £119 a night including breakfast for a ‘Cosy’ room and range up to £220 a night for the ‘Best’ category.
The award shortlist comes a few months after owners Nick and Julia Davies completed a £2million revamp of the decor across the hotel, shown in the photo gallery below.
Voting is open online until October 24 at the www.johansens.com website. Winners will then be announced on November 7.
A spokesperson from Condé Nast Johansens Awards said: “The Awards were created to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across our recommended properties.
“Our world-renowned Awards for Excellence are a trusted mark of quality recognised by consumers and travel professionals alike.”
