Bristol may not be London in terms of its celebrity population, but we still have our fair share of stars and big names that pass through our city.
We also have a whole host of celebrities that are Bristol born and bred – from Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams to comedian Stephen Merchant.
Plenty of celebrities have been drawn to Bristol over the years, whether it’s just been for a day shopping trip, or to up sticks and move their lives to the South West city completely.

Many celebrity sightings are very much helped by the fact that Bristol is used as a filming location by many production crews for films and television shows.
Here are just some of the celebrities that have been spotted out and about in Bristol in recent years.
Maya Jama
Back in June, Bristolian presenter Maya Jama returned to her hometown to film with YouTuber Chunkz.
It appears that the star may have been filming a ‘Hometown Showdown‘ video, in which they both took each other on a tour of their hometowns in a head-to-head competition of who hails from the best city.
During the video, Maya took London-native Chunkz on a hot air balloon tour of Bristol, whilst reminiscing on attending the balloon festival as a child. The pair also visited Maya’s mum at the star’s childhood home, Cheltenham Road, and Bristol Harbour to take part in a ‘Bristol or Beyond’ eating challenge, where they sampled chocolate eggs and Ribena.
Clive Owen
The Bourne Identity actor Clive Owen was approached by fans in Bristol city centre in November.
57-year-old Owen was hesitant to admit to fans that it was him at first, but was more than happy to pose for selfies at the Haymarket, where he was spotted.

Zoella
Back in 2016, young Bristolians went mad when they heard that Zoella, one of the most popular vloggers of all time, was shopping in the city.
Zoe Sugg, who is originally from Wiltshire, had around 11 million subscribers on YouTube at the time, and so it’s no surprise that fans went nuts when she posted a photo of her shopping in Bristol’s Primark store. Fans who bumped into her said it was the ‘best day ever’.
Christopher Walken
Oscar-winning actor Christopher Walken was spotted in Bristol last summer, as the city was used for the filming of Stephen Merchant’s series ‘The Outlaws’, which aired in the autumn.
The Pulp Fiction actor, who plays Frank in Merchant’s series, was spotted in Shirehampton, Kingsdown and the city centre.
Eleanor Tomlinson
Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson was also papped in Bristol as she filmed The Outlaws alongside Merchant and Walken in 2021.
Shortly before filming, in May, Eleanor was spotted by a passer-by on a yacht next to Grain Barge on Hotwell Road.
The 29-year-old has previously declared Bristol to be the ‘best city in the world’.
Josie Gibson
This Morning star Josie is known and loved for her strong Bristol accent, with the presenter having grown up in the city and attending Brimsham Green School in Yate.
Over the years, Josie has been spotted filming competition segments for This Morning on the SS Great Britain, shopping in local supermarkets and at ScrewFix in the city.
Dani Harmer

In August last year, Tracy Beaker actress Dani Harmer was spotted in Whitchurch as filming went underway for CBBC spin-off series ‘The Beaker Girls’. Filming for the series also took place in Weston-Super-Mare.
The 2000s childhood icon has also appeared at club nights at PRYZM, where she has hosted meet and greets with fans.
Kris Marshall
Love Actually star Kris Marshall stopped off for an ice cream in September whilst filming for series two of ITV’s period drama, Sanditon, at the Brazabon Hangars.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped out in a snowy Bristol during their first year of marriage, back in February 2019.
A while before stepping down as working members of the royal family, the couple braved the cold as they met Bristolians outside the Old Vic.
Simon Pegg
Simon graduated the University of Bristol back in 1991 with a BA in Theatre, but he has returned to the city plenty of times since hitting it big.
The actor was spotted on Corn Street in June 2021, enjoying a spot of breakfast at Cafe Revival. He was in Bristol at the time to film The Undeclared War, which is due to air this year.
