WHILE a lot of people are hoping for a fresh start in 2022, a new variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has unfortunately entered the country which leads to growing cases of virus-infected Filipinos welcoming the New Year, including a number of celebrities.

On Monday, Ina Raymundo shared in an Instagram post that she is now recovering three days after testing positive

Posting a video of herself, Raymundo wrote, “‘Coz I got the Omicron but getting better. Just take it easy peeps and thanks to those who prayed and wished me well. Truly appreciate it.”

In a previous post, Raymundo said that her husband and five kids first caught the virus before her but were already doing better.

“Ang bait pa rin ni God (God is good) that I’m the last to get it so I was able to take good care of all of them. Most of my kids were sick for two days, not more than three days. I treated all of them like they have the flu. Please keep calm everyone. God is still in control,” the actress mentioned.

Meanwhile over the weekend, singer-songwriter Morisette Amon also stated in her personal Facebook account that she also tested positive.

Sharing a video of her singing, Amon said in the caption, “#Covidpositive welcoming myself to the club! lol. My symptoms were high fever (38 degrees Celsius yesterday), sneezing, sore body and headaches. Been on quarantine for the past couple of days now. Stay safe, everyone!”

Dubbed as “Asia’s Phoenix,” Amon along with producers Magic Entertainment Inc. and Gervin Productions LLC have already postponed the January leg of “Mad About Love US Tour – Chicago,” her music concert with Sam Concepcion until further notice.

“The intention behind this pronouncement is to help prevent the spread of the virus and to help ensure the utmost safety of the artists, the production staff and patrons,” the official statement read.

“The decision was made after extensive and careful consideration of the current situation alongside our commitment to cooperate with the City of Chicago’s efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19. We humbly ask for your understanding in these trying times,” the added.

The Philippines’ very own Miss Globe 2021 Maureen Montagne is also currently in self isolation after catching the virus. The 28-year-old beauty queen is thankful that her symptoms weren’t too bad and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated as well.

“If you think you might be positive right now please get tested to make sure you’re not spreading the virus so we can take care of our family, friends, and coworkers alike. I’ve had to move my international flight home til the end of the month but I’m thankful I’m here safe and sound with my parents,” wrote Montagne – who is currently in the US – on Instagram.

Comedian actress Candy Pangilinan, on the other hand, tested positive for the second time around last week.

Noong (The) first time ako magkaroon ng (I tested positive for) Covid, hindi po sila nahawa (they were not infected)at all. Pero ngayon hindi ko alam (But now, I don’t know), and I really hope and pray na sana hindi sila nahawa (that they don’t get infected),” Pangilanan said in her Youtube vlog, referring to her family members, including her son Quentin.

She also mentioned that the symptoms she had now compared to last time she had back in December 2020 are much more severe wherein she experiences cough, fever, headache, joint pain, chills, and fatigue.

Pangilinan, who is currently isolating at their home reminded the public, “It’s really dangerous and it’s really out there, and you don’t know when you will get it. Akala ko dati na parang sipon. Ngayon po, kung meron kayong sipon, i-assume niyo na po na meron kayong (I thought it was just like a cold. Now, if you have a cold, assume that you have) Covid.”

Last week, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach shared in an Instagram post that she and her sister Sarah have now recovered after testing positive for Covid-19 while staying in the United Kingdom, this, despite having been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot.

“[I am also complete] with flu and pneumonia vaccines. I eat healthy and I’m active, but I still got it. I got all the symptoms too. Fever, sore throat, body pain, runny nose, cough and I also lost my sense of smell and taste. It’s not like a regular cold or flu that goes away after a few days. I’ve never been sick for this long, which lasted than a week,” she recalled.

Wurtzbach, however, is still thankful their parents didn’t get infected but said, “Guys, Covid is so real. My timeline shows that many have/had it too, both in the Philippines and abroad. Please take this seriously because anyone can get it no matter how healthy you are. Being fully vaccinated doesn’t stop you from getting the virus but it helps you overcome it. Please health and safety protocols.”

Other celebrities who tested positive for Covid-19 are Volleyball star Alyssa Valdez and model-host and beauty queen Samantha Bernardo who both just got out of “Pinoy Big Brother” house after the holidays.

“It’s unfortunate because I was supposed to do a lot of work but this calls for home quarantine and rest days. I remember our Bahay ni Kuya moments where we don’t need to wear masks and we can hug each other. I am feeling weak and have colds as symptoms but I am still able to smell and taste. I promise that I will take care of myself and hopefully recover faster,” Bernardo said via Instagram on Monday.
