Kellie Harrington is likely to be reaping the monetary awards of winning a boxing gold at the Olympics as brands scramble to enter partnerships with her.

“Some 55 per cent of Irish adults, when asked if it is good for sports personalities and celebrities to represent businesses, said yes,” said John Trainor, chief executive of Onside, a management consultancy specialising in sponsorship. “Unquestionably Kellie will be on the shortlist for two handfuls of brands as they make their sponsorship deals between September and November. Her timing is beautiful.”

Claire Feely of Elevate PR said that collaborations, whether paid or unpaid, needed to be authentic. “The brand and the celebrity must be aligned, otherwise it won’t work,” she said.
