A member of the British royal family is reportedly set to star in the upcoming season of the UK reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, which will be filmed in Australia.

Mike Tindall, a former rugby union player and the grandson-in-law of the late Queen Elizabeth II, will make history as the first royal to take part in a prime-time reality TV series.

Mike is married to Princess Anne’s daughter Zara, an equestrian who is currently 20th in line to the throne, and the pair share three children together.

The Sun reported earlier this week that the 43-year-old will be joining the cast of the new season, with a source telling the publication it’s “a massive coup”.

“Mike has had a box seat for some of the most important moments in royal history for generations,” they said.

“He is sure to be discreet, but his sheer presence means this series will be an absolute must-watch.”

Other celebrities tipped to appear on season 22 include Boy George, comic Seann Walsh and DJ Chris Moyles, however, an ITV spokesperson told Express that the names are “just speculation”.

“We’ll announce our line up for the new series nearer its transmission,” they said.

The show is expected to premiere next month and will be filmed in New South Wales for the first time since production moved to Wales in 2020.

While I’m A Celebrity would mark Mike’s first major reality TV show appearance, he has previously competed on similar star-studded programs.

In 2015 he came second on season two of The Jump, which follows celebrities trying to master a variety of winter sports.

The same year he was also the runner-up on the show Bear Grylls: Mission Survive, where eight celebrities embark on a 12-day survival mission.

Mike and Zara, who live on Princess Anne’s estate in Gloucestershire, are considered non-working members of the royal family so they have to provide for themselves financially.

However, Mike has attended a number of key events including Her Majesty’s state funeral last month and the Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier in the year – where he was photographed interacting playfully with Prince Louis.

Prince Charles’ TV appearance

The news comes shortly after it was revealed that King Charles will make a special appearance in an upcoming episode of The Repair Shop to celebrate the BBC’s centenary.

The show is based around people who bring in items for restoration, with the King looking to restore an 18th Century Bracket clock which was made in 1987 for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

The BBC’s commissioning editor Julie Shaw said it was an “incredibly special program which has the magic that Repair Shop viewers have come to know and love”.

“People will see the former Prince of Wales as you rarely see him – and he is as captivated by the skills of the team who work on his items as any of our Repair Shop visitors,” she added. “The episode is a real treat and we hope that people enjoy it as much as we do.”

The episode, which is due to air in the UK on October 26, was filmed between Autumn 2021 and Spring 2022 before King Charles’ accession to the throne.
