Amazon is introducing the voices of celebrities Shaquille O’Neal and Melissa McCarthy to Alexa in the US, for specific requests.

Amazon is customizing Alexa’s experience for users with an announcement of the addition of two new celebrity voices on the virtual assistant – Shaquille O’Neal and Melissa McCarthy.

The voices can be bought for $4.99 each, and be activated with the prompt “Hey Melissa” or “Hey Shaq.” To test Shaq’s musical skills, users can also wake him up by saying “Hey Shaq, rap for me!” The two celebrity voices will not substitute Alexa entirely but will be assisting users on a limited number of requests – such as giving the weather report and telling jokes.

Amazon successfully launched the celebrity Alexa voices initiative back in 2019 with Samuel L. Jackson and included the voice of Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan as well. The initiative became the top-selling digital product on Amazon.com on launch day.

Amazon is also offering a new voice option for all of your requests, available upon the “Alexa, change your voice” command. Furthermore, the voice command “Ziggy” will offer either voice option. It currently includes Alexa, Computer, Echo, and Amazon.
