There have been several stars in Hollywood that found themselves saying, “I do” to princes and princesses.
Meghan Markle wasn’t the first celebrity to marry into royalty when she married Prince Harry in 2018. In fact, she is also not the first woman of African heritage to wed British royalty.
There have been several stars in Hollywood that found themselves saying, “I do” to princes and princesses, gaining a title of their own and living in a modern-day fairytale. Actresses like Grace Kelly became a princess overnight and Ava star Jessica Chastain will one day be a countess after marrying into an Italian noble family. These celebrities below famously married into royalty.
10 Grace Kelly
Oscar-winning actress Grace Kelly’s marriage to Prince Rainier III of Monaco was the first wedding between a Hollywood star and royalty. Kelly and Rainier met in 1955, at the Cannes Film Festival and three days later, the prince proposed to the star.
After marrying the prince, Kelly became known as the Princess of Monaco, but her royal duties took her away from her acting career and she had to retire at the age of 26, according to History. Princess Grace’s life was cut short when she died in a tragic car crash in 1982 at 52-years-old.
9 Rita Hayworth
Hollywood’s “The Love Goddess” Rita Hayworth married her third husband, Prince Aly Khan in 1949 and became a Persian princess. Khan was the son of Sultan Muhammed Shah and when Hayworth married the prince, the pair welcomed a princess named Yasmin shortly after.
However, their marriage only lasted four years after Khan was rumored to be having an affair with actress Joan Fontaine. Hayworth filed for divorce from the prince and went on to marry two more times.

Former Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock became the Princess of Monaco when she married Albert II, Prince of Monaco, in 2011. The prince is the son of actress Grace Kelly and Rainier III, and married the South African swimmer in a three-day wedding celebration that included music provided by classic rock band The Eagles, and had honored guests including British royal Prince Edward.
7 Jamie Lee Curtis
Most fans of actress Jamie Lee Curtis may not know that she is actually married to royalty. Curtis married Christopher Guest, a member of British royalty who once sat in the House of Lords before his career was cut short by the House of Lords Act in 1999.
When his father died, he was given the title of Baron Haden-Guest, while the actress became Lady Haden-Guest. The pair adopted their two children, which means they cannot inherit the family barony.
6 Emma McQuiston
When former actress and chef Emma McQuiston married Britain’s Ceawlin Thynne, Viscount of Weymouth, in 2013, she became the first Black marchioness in the U.K. Like Meghan Markle, McQuiston faced racism among the royals, including by her own mother-in-law, who was reportedly banned by her own son from attending their wedding, as reported by Daily Beast.
5 Casper Van Dien
Actor Casper van Dien met his former wife, Catherine Oxenberg while filming the 1999 action movie The Collectors. The actor found himself marrying into royalty as Oxenberg is the daughter of Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia.
Oxenberg is best known for her role in the soap opera Dynasty and she also got the chance to use her royal status to play the late Princess Diana twice, according to Best Life.
4 Diane Von Furstenberg
Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg was once married to Prince Egon von Furstenberg, the son of Prince Tassilo zu Furstenberg, whose German aristocratic ancestry goes back generations.
The pair married in 1969, even though his father disapproved of his son marrying the future fashion designer because she was Jewish. However, the prince and former princess had two children but later divorced in 1983.
3 Olivia Wilde
Before she was with funnyman Jason Sudeikis, actress Olivia Wilde was married to filmmaker Tao Ruspoli, the son of Prince Alessandro, of Italian royalty, and actress Debra Berger. The pair got married when Wilde was only 19-years-old with InStyle reporting that the two got married on a school bus, but they later split in 2011.
When speaking about any perks to being married to royalty, she shared, “No special parking spaces or tiaras. Since it’s only a papal title, it doesn’t carry a lot of weight, but his family does have a beautiful castle and palazzo in Italy, so that makes me feel like a princess.”
2 Jessica Chastain
Actress Jessica Chastain once shared that she would never date an actor, so she found herself a royal. Chastain married fashion industry executive Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, who comes from a long line of Italian nobility in 2012, and who also presides over a massive estate called Villa Tiepolo Passi.
According to The List, Chastain’s husband’s family can trace their heritage all the way back to the year 973. However, Chastain does not hold a title because the Italian aristocracy was dissolved in the 1940s.
